With the old routes destroyed and enemy forces still moving, Major leads a small force through a hidden way beneath the border. Their mission is simple enough: find their missing soldiers, link up with their allies, and get out before the South closes around them.

Behind the walls of the human cities, the Vulpes live under orders, collars and fear. Taken young, trained hard and used by the Council of Cities, they have been turned into soldiers, hunters and weapons against every nation that stands in humanity’s way.

To Major, they were once the enemy.

Now he sees what made them.

When one of his own is captured, the mission becomes a fight through hostile ground, broken cities and guarded camps, where every choice risks exposing the force and every delay gives the enemy time to tighten the net.

In the North, the Ursus Kingdom is still bleeding from betrayal. A wounded king holds a fragile throne while Kjartan hunts the traitors who escaped.
